Visiting Hawaii In May?

Mr. P’s Person asked:

My husband and I will be visiting Maui and Oahu for 2 weeks in May. We are looking for nice hotel’s on the beach if possible. We are not looking for cheap places, but not wanting to pay $1000 a night either.

Can anyone who knows both area’s give us some tips please? We will be at both locations for 7 nights.

This is a special belated trip for our 30th wedding anniversary that was on Feb 8. We had planned to be there for the actual anniversary, but something came up so as we could not travel at that time. We want to make this trip as special as it can possibly be.

Thanks for any help you can give.
Thanks guys. I am finding your infor really helpful.

We don’t really want a condo. This is a special trip. We don;t want to be cooking and stuff, but thanks for your help anyway. I sure will keep it in mind for any future trips. :-)

I would recommend using a service like expedia. They will list several hotels and you can view user comments. I’m planning a vacation (possibly to Hawaii more likely FL) at around the same time. So maybe I’ll see you there :)

Maui has this best places. some are called the Wailea Ekahi and the grand Wailea
the south shore is really nice, so look for places in Wailea
there was another place, it wasn’t as nice, but it was cheaper and quieter. i forgot what it’s called, but it’s near the Maui Ocean center

so if you want a condo go with the Wailea Ekahi
if you want a hotel, try the Grand Wailea
both are on the beach, and are really nice
sorry i can’t help you with Oahu. i haven’t been there in years,
but you can’t go wrong with a hilton or Mariott

I like the Sheraton Black Rock in Maui and in Oahu try the Sheraton Waikiki Beach. Both offer great locations, nice rooms and will not break the bank.

    Congratulations on your 30th Anniversary.

Planning a trip like Hawaii requires a travel agent. There are so many resorts to stay at. They have the connections and knowledge to direct you.

I can tell you this, my husband and I went to Hawaii in May and the weather was lovely. Loved Hawaii, so much to see and do.

Pearl Harbour and The Road to Hana are two very important attractions. The flora and fauna are unbelievable.

enjoy and have a great time)

My 3 teens and I were in Hawaii for 3 weeks this last July/August 10 days on Oahu and 11 on Maui…we had an Ocean Front room at the Outrigger Waikiki on Oahu..I believe it was right around $600-650.00 per night…but you can get Ocean View or Partial ocean view for quite a bit less…$3-400.00 per night…Close to everything with alot to offer as far as entertainment…On Maui The Kaanapali Beach Resort is great as well as Kaanapali Alii…Maui Sheraton and The Hyatt..

Are you willing to consider condos?

When we were in Maui in 2005, we stayed at Puamana vacation homes.

It’s walking distance of the main town of Lahaina, the condo’s are very nice and the oceanfront units are 100ft from the water. 1BR is around $300/night which seems to be well within your budget. Not having to eat out every night was a huge plus for us, as was the amazing location and proximity to town.

I’m less familiar with Oahu lodging as we have friends there, but I highly recommend the “Revealed” books by Wizard Publishers. From their website, you can click through almost all of the hotels and condos that are available on both islands.

We’ve been to several of the islands and Oahu is my least favorite. Honolulu is just like any other big city with a spattering of palm trees thrown in. In my opinion, if you don’t like crowds and you want to feel more like you are in Hawaii, then I would suggest Turtle Bay Resort. It is on the North Shore, about 45 minutes drive from the airport. The rooms are fairly nice… it is a pretty old resort, but has undergone a complete renovation. There are some beautiful sand beaches nearby that are virtually deserted. Also, there are MILES of walking paths to explore, stables, and two championship golf courses. They have a really good website. There are some good restaurants on the property, and a general store. The down side is that there isn’t much else nearby as far as restaurants but there are some amazing fresh fruit stands and of course there’s always Giovanis shrimp truck that has some pretty amazing fresh shrimp. Have a great trip… Hawaii is heaven on earth.
