Honeymoon Question. Where to go Carribean or Hawaii?
miraclegurl00 asked:
My fiance and i are getting married in march of 09. For our honeymoon, his family wants us to use their marriott timeshare. With that said, it limits the locations we can look at. I have always dreamed of going to the atlantis hotel however, that is not doable. With that in mind, we are currently looking at st. thomas or hawaii? St. thomas seems beautiful and have been told that it is amazing. But i have a fear of reptiles and i have heard that the reptiles are pretty prevalent there. Along with that, the cruises seem to have that being one of their biggest stops. The other option is hawaii probably kaui and then either maui or oahu… Love these places but it isn’t as “exoctic” as the others and seems a little “ordinary”… Any thoughts? I am very confused and feel that we need to make a decision soon… HELPP!!! I know the right spot is out there but i just can’t seem to find it within our perameters…

Def Hawaii. It is amazing. Hawaii is the most isolated population center in the world. It has beaches, cities, forests, volcanoes, waterfalls, mountains, the list keeps goin. St. Thomas has a bunch of people on a tour bus. With Hawaii you wont be dissapointed.

I know 2 couples that went to Hawaii and loved it. It is very expensive.
My husband and I went to Aruba on our honeymoon. We had a good time. I think we have enjoyed Hawaii more but we didn’t want to spend a lot. Actually, I’d rather go to Tahiti than Hawaii. So I’m saving.
I’ve heard great things about St. Thomas as well. Aruba had lots of lizards around. I didn’t find any in our hotel room. I didn’t have a problem with them outside. The lizards are down in Florida also.
For me, I would choose Hawaii over St. Thomas.
But I’m on the east coast. It’s easier for me to go to St. Thomas than to Hawaii or Tahiti.

Go to Hawaii!!
I just love it there! Go to either Kauai or Maui or both! All the islands are different. Kauai is very quiet….a GREAT place for honeymooners.
Do NOT go to Oahu (Honolulu) unless you like LOTS of people and crowds! It’s a very populated city. I would stick with Kauai or Maui. There are TONS of things to do…..snorkeling, whale watching cruises, shopping, walking the beach….it’s not ordinary by any means!

I’d go with Hawaii for one simple reason- you don’t have to go through the hassle of getting a passport.

Another big question to consider is where you live and where you will be flying from. If you live on the East Coast, Hawaii is a very long flight and eats up almost 2-full days of your vacation with travel time. Plus another day of jet lag. The Caribbean is much easier to do from the East Coast.
Vice versa applies with traveling from the West Coast to the Caribbean. More expensive, long flight, jet lag.
Just some more things to consider as you make your decision!
Personally, I’d choose the one that was the shorter flight with less jet lag, that way I got to enjoy more of the honeymoon actually honeymooning instead of flying or napping from jet lag!
Congratulations and best of luck!!

I can speak from experience there are many many reptiles in St. Thomas as well as cattle FYI. If you are afraid of them you might not want to venture out here. They are on the beach at the aquariums and outside of the houses. I am not sure about Hawaii but the warm weather and the reptiles seem to coincide if you ask me.

I went on a cruise thru the Virgin Islands. It was sooooooo wonderful! The water is blue and you can see a long way thru it. You have the option of getting out at the different islands, one that we came to you could clim the rainforest. I cant remember which one it was.
The cruise ship also does some nice things for you for your honeymoon, make sure they know thats why you are there.
I dont know much about Hawaii, other than my stepdad used to live there and its beautiful.

I have never been to St. Thomas, but I’ve had the opportunity to go to Maui twice and it is anything but “ordinary.” It’s easily the most beautiful place I’ve ever been, not to mention very romantic. If you are going in March you will be there during the time when the humpback whales migrate – this was one of my favorite things about my last trip there. We went out on a boat to see them closer, but you can see them from the shore as well. We even watched the whales jumping in the ocean from our hotel balcony, which was an awesome sight. If you are the adventurous type, there are all kinds of outdoor activities you can do while you’re there: horseback riding through lava fields, zip-lines, biking down Haleakala, helicopter rides, kayaking, and so on. If not, you can just chill on the beach, by the pool, and maybe go to a luau. Oh, another plus: you don’t need passports, and they are English-speaking.
Anyways, that’s just my opinion, but like I said, I’ve never been to St. Thomas. SInce you have some time to plan, you can do some in-depth research on both places and see what suits you more as a couple.
Hope you have tons of fun wherever you go, congrats!

Going to Hawaii is actually pretty expensive especially if you live in the mid west or east coast (think extra cost for airfare for starters). i hear that from two couples I know that have gone that they were disapointed in Hawaii. They could have spent half that money in Cancun and had a way better time.
I would go to the Carribran!!!!

Cattle on St Thomas? There’s barely room on the island for people… there’s no cattle roaming freely on the streets of St Thomas…
There are reptiles, yes… specifically iguanas. And they’re huge! And of course smaller lizards… they eat mosquitoes and are harmless. But Hawaii has bugs… lots of ‘em I’ve been told and weird ones. For me it’s a draw.
If you’re staying at a Marriott timeshare (lucky you)… and you live on the East coast I would go for Aruba, St Kitts and St Thomas… in that order. Personally, I would really love to go stay at Frenchmen’s Reef… their beach is amazing! But Aruba is more “exotic” to me since it’s Dutch.
If you’re closer to the West coast, go to Hawaii. Don’t bother wasting all that time to go to the Caribbean unless you’ve already been to Hawaii.
